Lunchboxes prepared at 7am, Tetris-style journeys to and from work, homework between two loads of washing, signing up for activities between two emails… If you’re reading these lines, you’ve survived a full school year. Hats off to you!
Are the kids on holiday? Maybe this is the time for you to take a breather too. Less logistics, more freedom… in theory, that is. Because between summer courses, weeks to fill, last-minute bookings and the famous ‘I’m bored’ at 10am, the summer holidays are anything but a holiday for parents.
But I promise you: you’re not alone.
Summer: a well-deserved break (even if…)
We’re not going to lie to you: yes, the summer holidays are long. And yes, it’s a real challenge for those who work during this period. So, to save you from crisis management mode, here’s what you need to know:
The idea box for (almost) stress-free holidays
Courses & activities
→ Sport, theatre, nature, robotics, fun English… There are courses to suit all tastes.
→ Consult the local authority programmes.
Crèches and day centres
→ Many remain open for part of the summer (except for 2 weeks in August). Find out more from your facility.
Preparing for the start of the new school year
→ Leave supplies and bags on stand-by until the end of August… But do look ahead to medical appointments, and registrations for meals, transport or Maison Relais.
Learning while having fun
→ Audio books, podcasts, logic games, little reading challenges: just enough to keep the brain moving without overdoing it.
And above all… slow down.
→ Get a bit more sleep. Letting go of schedules. Let the kids get a little bored (it’s good for creativity!). And you, get some rest too.
