The educational environment is rapidly changing. Following international trends in both teacher education and teacher professionalisation, the Luxembourg fundamental education ecosystem is gradually complementing its teaching staff\u0097traditionally generalist teachers in fundamental education\u0097with specialised teachers (and other specialists). The need for both increasing professionalisation, specialisation, and multi-professional collaboration in education is rooted in consequential educational challenges, including:<\/p>\n
the handling increasingly heterogeneous (and often multilingual) student populations;
\nthe adequate consideration for diversity and special needs;
\nthe tackling well-known yet persistent educational inequalities;
\nthe efficient and effective management of educational resources in (non)formal educational settings, more generally;
\nthe integration of formal, non-formal, and informal education;
\nthe impact of so-called global mega-trends on educational practices and programmes, and, closely related to the latter;
\nthe meaningful integration of (possibly disruptive) technologies.
